Prostate Biopsy

More Precise Prostate Cancer Diagnosis for Men Across the Caribbean

If your PSA is elevated, your MRI shows a suspicious area, or you have already had a prostate biopsy but need clearer confirmation, Caribbean Urology Innovations can help you access advanced prostate biopsy options.

For some men, timely access to prostate biopsy may be limited. Others may need a more precise diagnostic method before making decisions about active surveillance, focal therapy, surgery, radiation, or another treatment path. CUI helps patients move from uncertainty to clearer answers through modern prostate biopsy techniques.

When Is a Prostate Biopsy Needed?

A prostate biopsy is needed to diagnose prostate cancer. PSA testing, MRI scans, and physical examination can raise concern, but they cannot confirm cancer on their own.

A biopsy may be recommended when a man has:

  • Elevated or rising PSA
  • A suspicious prostate MRI
  • An abnormal prostate exam
  • A previous negative biopsy but ongoing concern
  • A previous biopsy that needs confirmation before treatment planning

The goal is to determine whether prostate cancer is present, where it is located, and how significant it may be.

Access to Advanced Biopsy Options

CUI helps men across the Caribbean access prostate biopsy when local options are limited, delayed, or not suitable for the level of diagnostic detail needed.

When appropriate, we may refer patients for advanced diagnostic assessment and biopsy at our Toronto clinical facilities in Canada. This can be especially important for men who are considering focal prostate cancer treatment, where accurate tumour location and mapping are needed before treatment can be planned.

Patients begin with a consultation and medical review, including PSA history, MRI results, previous biopsy reports, and other relevant medical information. From there, we help determine whether further biopsy assessment is needed and what the next step should be.

Transperineal Prostate Biopsy

CUI uses a transperineal approach to prostate biopsy. This means the biopsy needle passes through the skin between the scrotum and rectum, rather than through the rectal wall.

This approach may reduce infection risk compared with traditional transrectal biopsy and can provide better access to certain areas of the prostate.

Watch Dr. Barkin explain the difference between transrectal and transperineal prostate biopsy.

Ultrasound-Guided and MRI Fusion-Guided Biopsy

Depending on the patient’s case, CUI offers:

  • Transperineal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy
  • Transperineal MRI fusion-guided prostate biopsy

MRI fusion-guided biopsy allows suspicious areas seen on prostate MRI to be targeted more precisely during the biopsy. This can be helpful when a previous biopsy was negative, when PSA remains concerning, or when accurate tumour mapping is needed before treatment planning.

Get a Clearer Diagnosis Before Choosing Treatment

The right prostate cancer treatment decision starts with the right diagnosis. CUI helps men access modern biopsy options designed to provide clearer information before they commit to a major treatment decision.

If your PSA is elevated, your MRI is suspicious, or you need confirmation after a previous biopsy, CUI can help you understand your next step.
